Using a Computer – Usar un ordenador

Diana sits down at her desk and presses the power button on her computer. The screen lights up and asks for her password. She types it in and waits for the desktop to appear.
Diana se sienta en su escritorio y pulsa el botón de encendido de su ordenador. La pantalla se ilumina y le pide su contraseña. La escribe y espera a que aparezca el escritorio.
The first thing she does is check her email. There are five new messages waiting for her. She reads them one by one and answers the most important ones.
Lo primero que hace es revisar su correo electrónico. Hay cinco mensajes nuevos esperándola. Los lee uno por uno y responde a los más importantes.
Next she opens her web browser to search for information. She needs to find a good restaurant for a birthday party. She types the search words and looks at the results.
A continuación abre su navegador web para buscar información. Necesita encontrar un buen restaurante para una fiesta de cumpleaños. Escribe las palabras de búsqueda y mira los resultados.
She clicks on a few restaurant websites and reads the menus. One place looks very nice and has good reviews. She writes down the address and phone number.
Hace clic en algunos sitios web de restaurantes y lee los menús. Un lugar se ve muy bonito y tiene buenas reseñas. Anota la dirección y el número de teléfono.
Suddenly the computer becomes very slow. The mouse moves with difficulty and programmes take a long time to open. Diana decides to restart the computer.
De repente el ordenador se vuelve muy lento. El ratón se mueve con dificultad y los programas tardan mucho en abrirse. Diana decide reiniciar el ordenador.
After the restart everything works normally again. She opens a document and starts writing a letter to a friend. She uses a simple word processor and checks the spelling.
Después del reinicio todo funciona normalmente de nuevo. Abre un documento y empieza a escribir una carta a una amiga. Usa un procesador de textos sencillo y revisa la ortografía.
She saves the document on her desktop and sends it as an email attachment. She writes a short message and clicks the send button. The email arrives in a few seconds.
Guarda el documento en su escritorio y lo envía como archivo adjunto de correo electrónico. Escribe un mensaje corto y pulsa el botón de enviar. El correo llega en unos segundos.
Diana notices that her computer needs more free space. She opens the file manager and looks for old files she can delete. She removes some large videos she no longer needs.
Diana nota que su ordenador necesita más espacio libre. Abre el gestor de archivos y busca archivos antiguos que pueda eliminar. Elimina algunos vídeos grandes que ya no necesita.
She also checks for software updates and installs them. The computer asks her to restart again to complete the installation. This time the restart is quick and smooth.
También busca actualizaciones de software y las instala. El ordenador le pide reiniciar de nuevo para completar la instalación. Esta vez el reinicio es rápido y sin problemas.
Before turning off the computer, Diana shuts down all programmes properly. She clicks the start menu and selects shut down. The screen goes dark and the computer turns off quietly.
Antes de apagar el ordenador, Diana cierra todos los programas correctamente. Hace clic en el menú de inicio y selecciona apagar. La pantalla se oscurece y el ordenador se apaga silenciosamente.
