A Family Holiday – Unas vacaciones en familia

The Smith family is planning a summer holiday. They sit around the kitchen table with brochures and maps spread out in front of them. The children are excited about going to the seaside.
La familia Smith está planeando unas vacaciones de verano. Se sientan alrededor de la mesa de la cocina con folletos y mapas extendidos frente a ellos. Los niños están entusiasmados por ir a la playa.
Anna checks the weather forecast for the coast. She packs sunscreen, hats, and light clothes for everyone. Her husband Tom brings the large suitcases from the bedroom closet.
Anna consulta el pronóstico del tiempo para la costa. Empaca protector solar, sombreros y ropa ligera para todos. Su esposo Tom trae las maletas grandes del armario del dormitorio.
On the morning of departure, the children wake up very early. They can hardly wait to get in the car. Tom checks the oil and the tyres before they leave.

The drive takes about four hours. They stop once at a motorway service station for coffee and snacks. The children play a game to pass the time.

When they finally arrive, the small hotel looks lovely. It is painted white and has a beautiful garden with flowers. The receptionist gives them the key to room seven.

On the first day they go straight to the beach. The water is warm and the sand is soft. The children build a big sandcastle near the water.

In the evening they walk along the harbour and look at the boats. They eat dinner at a small restaurant with fresh fish. Anna says it is the best meal of the holiday.

The next morning they visit a local market. There are colourful fruits, vegetables, and handmade crafts. Tom buys some honey and Anna buys a small ceramic plate.
A la mañana siguiente visitan un mercado local. Hay frutas coloridas, verduras y artesanías. Tom compra miel y Anna compra un pequeño plato de cerámica.
On the last day the family takes a boat trip to a nearby island. They swim in a quiet bay and take many photographs. The children find small shells on the rocks.
El último día la familia hace una excursión en barco a una isla cercana. Nadan en una bahía tranquila y toman muchas fotografías. Los niños encuentran pequeñas conchas en las rocas.
On the way home the children fall asleep in the car. They are tired but very happy. Anna smiles and says they should come back next year.
En el camino de regreso los niños se duermen en el coche. Están cansados pero muy felices. Anna sonríe y dice que deberían volver el año que viene.
