At the Airport – No Aerporto

The Kowalski family was travelling to Barcelona for the first time. They arrived at Warsaw Chopin Airport two hours before their flight. The airport was busy with many people rushing to different gates.

We need to check in first, said Marek, looking at the departure screens. Our flight is at ten fifteen. Let me find the check-in counters for the airline. Ewa carried their documents while the children held their small backpacks.

Good morning! Can I have your passports please? asked the check-in agent, a young woman with a friendly smile. Marek handed her all four passports. The family was travelling with hand luggage only, so they did not need to drop off any suitcases.

Would you prefer window or aisle seats? asked the agent. Window, please, said Zosia immediately. She wanted to see the clouds from above. Piotrek chose the aisle seat so he could stretch his legs. The parents sat in the middle.

Please place your belongings in the trays and walk through the metal detector, said the officer. The family placed their bags, shoes, and electronics in the grey plastic trays. The trays moved along the belt into the X-ray machine.

Excuse me, could you come here please? asked the security officer, looking at Piotrek. Your bag needs a manual check. The boy opened his backpack, and the officer found a small bottle of water that Piotrek had forgotten to throw away.

The plane began to descend. Zosia felt her ears pop, so she swallowed hard and chewed gum. Marek reminded the children to look at the window. They could see the Mediterranean Sea and the city of Barcelona below.

Hold on, we are landing! said Ewa. The plane touched the runway with a gentle bump. The wheels screeched as the plane slowed down. After a few moments, the plane turned onto the taxiway.

They collected their hand luggage and walked off the plane. After a short walk through the boarding bridge, they entered the terminal building. The signs pointed to baggage claim and customs.

My darlings! You have arrived safely! said the grandmother, hugging everyone. How was the flight? She was so happy to see them after a long time. The family was tired but very happy to be together.
