A Family Holiday – Férias em família

The Smith family is planning a summer holiday. They sit around the kitchen table with brochures and maps spread out in front of them. The children are excited about going to the seaside.
A família Smith está a planear umas férias de verão. Sentam-se à volta da mesa da cozinha com folhetos e mapas espalhados à frente deles. As crianças estão entusiasmadas por ir à praia.
Anna checks the weather forecast for the coast. She packs sunscreen, hats, and light clothes for everyone. Her husband Tom brings the large suitcases from the bedroom closet.
Anna verifica a previsão do tempo para a costa. Ela arranja protetor solar, chapéus e roupas leves para todos. O seu marido Tom traz as malas grandes do roupeiro do quarto.
On the morning of departure, the children wake up very early. They can hardly wait to get in the car. Tom checks the oil and the tyres before they leave.
Na manhã da partida, as crianças acordam muito cedo. Mal podem esperar para entrar no carro. Tom verifica o óleo e os pneus antes de saírem.
The drive takes about four hours. They stop once at a motorway service station for coffee and snacks. The children play a game to pass the time.
A viagem dura cerca de quatro horas. Param uma vez numa estação de serviço da autoestrada para café e lanches. As crianças jogam um jogo para passar o tempo.
When they finally arrive, the small hotel looks lovely. It is painted white and has a beautiful garden with flowers. The receptionist gives them the key to room seven.
Quando finalmente chegam, o pequeno hotel parece adorável. Está pintado de branco e tem um belo jardim com flores. A rececionista dá-lhes a chave do quarto sete.
On the first day they go straight to the beach. The water is warm and the sand is soft. The children build a big sandcastle near the water.
No primeiro dia vão direto para a praia. A água está quente e a areia é macia. As crianças constroem um grande castelo de areia perto da água.
In the evening they walk along the harbour and look at the boats. They eat dinner at a small restaurant with fresh fish. Anna says it is the best meal of the holiday.
Ao anoitecer passeiam pelo porto e olham para os barcos. Jantam num pequeno restaurante com peixe fresco. Anna diz que é a melhor refeição das férias.
The next morning they visit a local market. There are colourful fruits, vegetables, and handmade crafts. Tom buys some honey and Anna buys a small ceramic plate.
Na manhã seguinte visitam um mercado local. Há frutas coloridas, legumes e artesanato. Tom compra mel e Anna compra um pequeno prato de cerâmica.
On the last day the family takes a boat trip to a nearby island. They swim in a quiet bay and take many photographs. The children find small shells on the rocks.
No último dia a família faz um passeio de barco a uma ilha próxima. Nadam numa baía tranquila e tiram muitas fotografias. As crianças encontram pequenas conchas nas rochas.
On the way home the children fall asleep in the car. They are tired but very happy. Anna smiles and says they should come back next year.
No caminho de casa as crianças adormecem no carro. Estão cansadas mas muito felizes. Anna sorri e diz que devem voltar no próximo ano.
